Well we are getting very comfortable in our backyard now. And with all this rain we've been having there are sticks and twigs EVERYWHERE. You may ask "How do you know this Diane?" Well I know this because my dog will literally chew on and potentially try and eat every single stick on the ground while we are outside.
On this particular morning that I took this picture Dolce ran down the stairs went to the bathroom and immediately proceeded to find the biggest stick she could and not only chew on it but attempt to run at breakneck speed across the yard with it. Yeah that's totally not an accident waiting to happen. So I took it away (using the 'leave it' command secretly being proud of myself for having taught her that ) and thinking nothing of it and tossed it over the fence to be my neighbor's problem. And moments later I twirled around to find her with the next biggest stick in her mouth. So again I took it and tossed it over the fence. And again I twirled around and...are we all seeing a pattern here?? She literally worked her way through about 6 stick until we were down to the tiny twigs. On the upside my yard was now clean. Perhaps I should find the silver lining and start my own landscaping business and make her Head of the Stick Department? But really what baffles me is she does not want to play with the sticks and she certainly doesn't want to share them with me. But she would love to bring them in the house and chew chew chew if I let her. Needless to say all my attempts to take stick away or make the sticks playthings rather then chew toys was entirely unsuccessful. I suppose it will just be our lot in life to be surrounded by sticks!
